European Experience 2010 (Oberammergau)

After seeing the distinctive structures and skylines of London, Rome, Florence and Paris, linger over views of the Rhine Valley, the Alps of Italy, the Italian Lakes, and the lush wine region of Burgundy.

 

Day 1- Depart USA
Overnight flight from USA.

Day 2- Arrive London (2 nights)
Time to relax after checking into your Trafalgar hotel.

Day 3 - London at leisure
The day is at leisure to explore the city. (Buffet breakfast)

Day 4 - London - Amsterdam
Welcome from our Tour Director as we drive to Dover to take our Chanel ferry crossing to Calais in France. Then we drive through Belgium’s Flanders fields and into Holland, and Amsterdam where we see Dam Square and the Mint Tower. (Continental breakfast)

Day 5 - Amsterdam – Rhineland
We cross into Germany and visit Cologne with its magnificent cathedral. Later we drive to Boppard and take a scenic Rhine cruise past terraced vineyards and towering castles. Finally we arrive at our Rhineland hotel. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 6 - Rhineland – Innsbruck (Igls)
Today we drive on to fun-loving Munich in Bavaria to see the Olympic Stadium, Glockenspiel and Hofbräuhaus. We then continue along the Inn Valley and into Austrian Tyrol where we arrive in the picturesque town of Innsbruck and see the Golden Roof and Hofburg Palace. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 7 - Innsbruck (Igls) – Venice (Marghera)
This morning we take the Brenner Pass and enjoy an exhilarating drive through the Alps to Italy. We continue to the romantic city of Venice where we take our included canal cruise by vaporetto to St. Mark’s Square. Here we see St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace and visit a traditional glass-blowing work-shop before free time to perhaps take a gondola serenade! (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 8 - Venice (Marghera) - Rome (2 nights)
This morning we drive across the Veneto plain via Bologna and over the Apennine Mountains before arriving in Tuscany. Then through Umbria and Lazio to the cradle of the Roman civilisation – the Eternal City that is Rome. (Buffet breakfast)

Day 9 - Rome sightseeing & at leisure
After breakfast there’s a whole day for in-depth exploration. Our sightseeing tour features St. Peter’s Basilica and views of the Forum and the mighty Colosseum. There’s free time later to marvel at the tapestries in the Vatican Museum and perhaps take a trip to Tivoli Gardens to see the incredible fountains. (Buffet breakfast)

Day 10 - Rome - Florence (Calenzano)
We leave Rome and drive through Umbria to beautiful Tuscany and it’s capital, the Renaissance city of Florence. Here we enjoy spectacular views of the city from Piazzale Michelangelo before having time to visit Piazza Signoria, the Duomo and Giotto’s Bell Tower, or to shop for high quality leather goods and 18-carat gold jewellery before continuing to our hotel. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 11 - Florence (Calenzano) - Lake Lucerne (2 nights)
First we drive to Pisa where we see the magnificent baptistery and the even more renowned Leaning Tower in the Square of Miracles. Later we head north to the Swiss border passing stunning Lake Como before taking the scenic Gotthard route to Lake Lucerne. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 12 - Lake Lucerne – Lucerne orientation and at leisure
This morning after breakfast our orientation shows us the medieval Chapel Bridge and the poignant Lion Monument. Then you have time to perhaps ascend a nearby mountain peak and later this afternoon maybe shop for delicious chocolates and precision-made timepieces. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 13 - Lake Lucerne – Paris (2 nights)
We cross into France at Basel and skirt the Vosges Mountains before travelling through the great wine region of Burgundy and the rich farming land around Auxerre before arriving in the elegant and exciting city of Paris! (Buffet breakfast)

Day 14 - Paris sightseeing & at leisure
Views of the Eiffel Tower, Champs Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame Cathedral and more all feature on our morning sightseeing tour. Then time maybe to visit Montmartre and tonight, why not sample this city’s legendary nightlife? (Buffet breakfast)

Day 15 - Paris – USA
Time to bid farewell to your new friends. A transfer is provided to Charles de Gaulle Airport, conditions apply. (Buffet breakfast)

CH1 - LUCERNE. Lake Cruise
Widely considered to be the most lovely of the mountain lakes, much of the shoreline of Lake Lucerne can only be fully appreciated from the water. Admire the spectacular homes of the fortunate few, privileged to live on its scenic shores, as we cruise gently by.

CH11 - LUCERNE. Mount Pilatus
A scenic lakeshore drive brings us to our cog-wheel railway, where we board our train to the summit of Lucerne’s most well-known mountain. Here you have time to explore, admire the many sweeping views and breathe in the fresh mountain air. Later a series of cable cars will bring us gradually down through fields and forests to the foot of this majestic mountain. (On certain departures the ascent as well as the descent of the mountain will be by cable car only)

CH8 - LUCERNE. Swiss Experience with Mt Pilatus
On certain departures, Mt Pilatus and the Folklore Show with lunch will be combined. Enjoy an unforgettable trip along the lake to nearby mountain slopes, and ascend by cog-wheel railway and cable car to spectacular alpine views. The mountain air will whet your appetite for a delicious lunch with drink included (one of the courses will be a cheese fondue), in one of Switzerland’s most atmospheric restaurants. Yodelling and alpine horns will contribute to your enjoyment of the accompanying traditional folklore show. F12 - PARIS. The Louvre & Eiffel Tower
We start with a conducted tour of one of the finest art galleries in the world - the Louvre. A chance to admire the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo amongst the many thousands of exhibits in this former Royal Palace. In addition, you may wish to admire the city from on high and ascend to the second stage of the Eiffel Tower. (On occasions when the Louvre is closed, we will visit the Sainte Chapelle). Our visit will be enhanced by the effective use of our excellent audio system.

I7 - ROME. Evening Tour: Fountains and Dinner
A lighthearted introduction to the "Eternal City". Make sure of a safe return to Rome as you toss coins in to the Trevi Fountain.
